We find great satire funny because it humanizes us to great social truths--often in politics, religion, or social mores. virtualsalt.com Some of my favorite authors are: All of Dickens Of course, Swift (remember his solution to dealing with the illegitimate population of babies?!) Joseph Conrad, "The Secret Agent" The Good Soldier! Barchester Towers...and many many more! Anyone concerned with human progress and social reform values satire because nothing is quite so effective (short of war) at showing man his foibles and educating society to a better way.
