I think that only Japan's system is actually self-sustaining. Everything else has been government subsidized. Any state that accepts this high-speed rail proposal is just going to be dishing out more money it doesn't have. First rule....when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. I for one would probably try the high-speed rail instead of flying but at what cost to me and what cost to the government?
