Not when the benefits that unions get are at the expense of other working citizens, as in the case of state employee unions.

Or when the unions are paid very well to do mediocre work, as can be argued in the case of Detroit. Same with teachers unions, who often resist performance-based pay and the firing of underperforming teachers.

The unions are only in it for themselves. Long gone are the days when they fought for every worker in America. Now they're just a special interest living off of the arrogance bred by their past successes.

Remember when you couldn't even move a computer monitor in your own office because that was supposed to be a "union job"? Thank the unions!
