Foxconn has raised salaries by 30%. China is running a 15%+ food and commodity inflation. Apple manufactures almost nothing so everything they do has to factor in those increases plus the expense of add-on profit to the supplier. Unlike before with the iPod, they are now competing with those suppliers who have a clear cost advantage than Apple. Will see, but my guess is that it is possible that the iPad 2 has a higher minimum price than the iPad 1 (and they can justify that by doing away with the 16Gb iPad and offer a 32Gb and above at $599 and above). We'll see....
