That is what I hoped you meant. It is just that your presentation was so solemn (I even thought I heard taps playing behind the drum roll!)--that I felt there was something anti-climactic about it--and I did not want to misunderstand you.

So thank you for that. I applaud you for that, Jacques! ;-)

As for being decent and civil--well that covers all sorts of justifiable behaviors in my books--depending on the situation.

"Nice", to me, often connotes the improper subordination of higher values to lower values such as “getting along”. And that can be a moral crime against oneself. Now I don’t say “getting along” is not a value; nor do I say that being “nice” necessarily gives “getting along” unfair billing. But I am referring to what I have seen to be a fact many many times over the years--and I do like to get it right.

It is relatively easy to have discussions of fact with people who respect facts. But I have no gallantry to waste on people who are deliberate criminals, in order to harm others (such as those who deliberately create libel and misrepresentations). When these people are uncouth and unstable (as well), and carry vulgarity and ignorance into my inbox like a badge of distinction--then I exercise a moral prerogative to publicly ridicule their criminality and their lack of character and to expunge their pretense to either civility of truth.

I don’t go so far as to throw rotten tomatoes at them, as though they were in the stocks(as was the custom of the moral majority at one time when dealing with those who spit in the face of goodness and truth)--but I certainly don’t assist their promotion of bigotry to unsafe levels for human consumption, either.
