“The fact that Landover makes certain people boil over and piss with rage shows they're doing something right.

Quite right! Their satire is sometimes rough but in all cases it is rough against people who need to change so the world can have peace and security and human rights. Take for example the sad issue of homosexuality.

There have been MILLIONS of these people condemned, insulted, denigrated and driven to either SUICIDE or to an unhappy waste of this gift of life through being oppressed and unjustly hated by bigots and ignoramuses. Nature is neither moral nor immoral. Morality is a man-made convention critiquing conduct which either helps or hurts, furthers or hinders, our collective search for survival, safety, and happiness. Yet millions of devoutly religious people condemn these people as immoral and corrupt sinners when these people did nothing immoral to be born as they were born. It is not nice to let these sorts of things happen in our world when we can speak up. I believe there is a maxim about when nobody spoke...

There is a least one person on this thread who would gladly keep (and abuse) slaves--IF the century he was in told him to do so. There is that same person who would cheerfully cut the tongue out of an atheist (or a believer in any way but HIS WAY) and watch them burn to death while he piled on wood--IF the century he was in told him to.

That same person (living now in this century) casts moral judgments on people and destroys many human lives (alongside of his fellow butter-heads) because this century tells his superstitious little self-righteous mind to do these things.

Now look at how this great church at Landover Baptist uses satire to point out the wrong behavior of these people who have destroyed so many lives in every century. Notice that every line is thought out to address that purpose--to create a better world and to stop innocent people from being ostracized, humiliated--or otherwise harmed or killed. Notice that the satire is ONLY against those who preach, practice, and justify the hatred, persecution, and denial of rights (in this case to homosexuals)!

It does not ridicule me or you--or any other decent human being. But it pokes the hurtful, bigoted, and mean in the eyes, and it slaps them in the ears--that they may perchance learn to see and to hear--and perchance to THINK!

Satire has been an effective engine of social change since long before the little boy bravely cried out that the Emperor wasn’t wearing any clothes! And the names and accomplishments of the great satirists will last as long as any names will last.

As you know (over the last decade), I have sometimes been accused of not being nice to bigots, charlatans and mindless social insects who cause harm and contaminate my planet with superstition and bigotry. I answer guilty to the grievous crime of sometimes being nice to the people who count…by soundly threshing the bejesus out of those others…

And you are absolutely right! It is THOSE people who scream and take apoplectic fits at having their immorality and their ignorance...their superstitions and their bigotry, exposed! For the rest of us it is heartwarming, hilarious, and socially responsible and dutiful.

The Eeeek doth protest too much, methinks!
