Good post, but I think it's a far more insidious than that. Teachers by and large form the backbone of the Democrat party. Probably at the 80% level they're mind numb Obamatrons of the highest order.

Refusing to teach and going on strike, while taking children arm in arm with them to shout down Governor's across the country, who are simply trying to balance their state budget, shows no character and I give them no quarter. Holding Nazi signs, painting death to the Governor and so forth is disgusting.

On top of that, forcing kids to watch Al Gore's movie every year, spouting environmental nonsense day in and day out, pushing ridiculous forms of dad love dad family books at grade schoolers, handing out condoms, etc. This nonsense needs to end.

We have a 50% high school dropout rate in cities across the country. Each and every day teachers are failing to do their job, that being to educate our kids, and all everyone does is make excuses for them. It's a true national tragedy, yet solutions like vouchers are prevented from being tried by a status quo group of hard core leftists, who care more about their pensions, their control and themselves, then the children of America. How long will we accept generations of Americans who barely have the skills to push a register at McDonald's before change can occur?

We can't afford to maintain a system failing so completely, in which 18 year olds are flushed into the street to become members of the permanent underclass. This causes a huge drain on our economy, effects national security, family breakup, teenage pregnancy, crime and so much more. We not only pay once at the teacher level, we pay ten times over dealing with the productive lives lost, due to a public education system that is failing. And it's failing because of the teachers union, the members of which are the teachers themselves. They are the union and the union is them.
