What does Android bring to Nokia besides a guarnanteed commoditization with competition from Samsung, HTC, Motorola and a host of deeply discounted Chinese phone.

There is speculation that Nokia is using Windows as an intermediate step to eventually move to their own platform. One advantage Nokia wrested from Microsoft was the ability to customize the Windows OS. That customization ability would let Nokia skin their Windows phon to transition seamlessly to a MeeGo type phone down the road. A risk but higher reward possibility than going with Android which seals their fate as one of many at best.
