Welcome to Tankwatch Brad, and thanks for sharing your experiences.
I got my licks as a software developer on the Apple II+. First job was with Merril Lynch Relocations Management, writing code for the Apple II+; I had to get my parents to sign my working papers. First game I wrote was "Barrels", donkey kong clone.
But Apple screws anyone any way they can. Always have. They change horses so often, throwing out their legacy, your head would spin. If you wrote for the II+, you were screwed when Lisa came along. The Mac. Then PowerPC. I can't even remember how many times Apple has f*cked over their base, and I'm sure I've left out more than a few here.
I simply do not have a recollection when Microsoft made an operating system that was not capable of running legacy code. It makes you a little less fast to market, but customers and developers alike come to really respect your social contract when you respect both the past and the future.
Now, if you like to spend sh*tloads of money for commodity hardware and get screwed on a regular basis of a marched upgrade cycle, bricked when a 2 cent component breaks, and locked into proprietary standards, then I'm completely down with you.
I do look forward to your participation, but must warn you that fanboy trolling is something I am a bit of a artist in. I await your next post. :)
