Curious - why can you not recommend the lens cleaning disc? I bot one from Wallymart - I occasionally use it on the drives. We have a LOT of dust in our home thanks to being right along the main access road into our complex. (Sort of thinking of getting air cleaner on the furnace but believe the dust is coming in the home through other means).

To me a lens cleaner is just the cost of doing business - you buy it - use it and put it away. Today yes they can be a rather high cost relative to the DVD devices. Life. I mean are you now going to go through a DVD writer every few months just because they are cheap? Of course not. (My first CD writer was a SCSI one - $200 back in the late 90s).

What you described with the cleaner is the same as mine. Not sure what you were expecting. Says on the CD itself "CD/DVD OptiDisc" which implies it will hit both lenses assuming there are two (probably one lens with two lasers).

Can't say how much I paid but usually things like that aren't worth my time to track down so if Wally has them, then so be it.

For those that DO have access to their PCs, I do recommend turning them off, unplugging them as well, cracking them open, and taking the vacuum cleaner to them - clean the fans carefully as well. Because air is pulled INTO the unit from the front, you will accumulate plenty of dust.
