State legislatures, particularly those with Dem majorities, are to blame as well. They easily cave to union demands for unreasonable benefits for state workers. Those workers are notorious for having among their ranks huge numbers of dead wood who rarely even show up for work.

Terrible abuses by many irresponsible teachers as well - this is directly the result of unionization luring into classrooms those who were never meant to be teachers. Those academics who are more interested in the welfare of students than extravagant benefits packages should stand up and fight for reform with their fellow Americans.
