Android Taking Over Video Game World Video Games: Android Ruled at Mobile World Congress 2011 February 22nd, 2011 compellingmind.com Video games running on Android platform ruled the Mobile World Congress 2011 event in Barcelona, Spain. With LG Optimus Pad operating on Honeycomb and Sony’s Xperia Play powered by Gingerbread, the event was more about showing off what video games turn out to be on these platforms. Android had two floors full of smartphones and tablet devices which said that they were going to ship before summer and then they had a huge section where mobile games were being showcased from around the world depicting what next generation arcade would be like. Gonzague de Vallois, SVP of Gameloft’s publishing side said “Video games drive the mobile business because they’re the best showcase of what these new devices can really do. Our experience in the console market is helping us deliver quality titles to these new devices for the mobile market.” Gameloft had their gadgets set up at LG’s booth which showcased Optimus 3D; the first and new 3D phone of the world. Tegra 2 showcased their processor which is dedicated to graphics and runs 10 times faster than PC gaming graphics, delivers a 1080p HDTV playback for games, Movies and TV shows. Since it consumes less power, a single charge can give 16 hours of HD video. Android became the world top selling platform, a thrown which belonged to Symbian. Research firm Canalys reported that last year’s Q4 showed Android selling 33.3 million, Symbian 31 mil, Apple 16.2 mil, RIM 14.6 and Microsoft 3.1 million phones.
