AT&T offers 2GB of data for the iPad at $25 per month, which compared to the Verizon plans, is cheaper overall. That carrier does not subsidize the cost of the iPad at all, which starts at $629 for the 16GB model. The XOOM would be offered in a 32GB capacity -- Apple charges $729 for its own 32GB model.

There is a significant difference between the "buy when you want to" ATT data model and the subscription model from V where you are forced to pay every month. I've had a 3G iPad since they came out and bought 3G data 3 times, for $15 each. $45, pushing a year. When I know I'll be traveling i buy, the rest of the time I'm on wifi.

So for me at least the $45 makes a lot more sense than the $240 per year for 2 years from Verizon.
