Unrest in the Middle East and its Effect on the Markets

CDS spreads on Middle Eastern debt are soaring, even those on countries that have not yet experienced unrest. The backdrop no longer provides a 'wall of worry' for the stock market to climb - instead, it has become an unquantifiable and growing risk. The events of 1979 may give a hint as to what to expect if the crisis continues for a while and threatens to get worse.
