Because the photo world provides many examples of unbeatable giants who fell from grace with such thuds, the reverberations of that have yet to settle. Yes, I am talking about you Kodak, first and foremost....

Once upon a time, when its power was still unrivaled, Kodak could have purchased Sandisk for $8/share. Say no more...
Then there are countless other film and camera manufacturers that now only exist in Wikipedia, listed under bankrupt.
On the other hand, who would have thought, ten years ago, that Panasonic and Sony and every other electronics firm on the planet would now be into cameras?
And who now thinks hard about the fact that cameras - as stand alone devices - are going bye bye, by the nanosecond, being replaced by phonecams? Fact is, a few years from now, only pro cameras will exist, as stand alone tools. Nobody will buy a stand alone point and shoot. Why would they? Their phonecam can do better and they have it with them at all times anyway.
So the storm rumbles through the tech scene.
All relevant, all instructive, about what happens when a giant gets on top of the ladder and the question becomes how it could get higher, and has anyone considered that it might fall, instead. (VBG) |
