re: direct copper

Sorry if this has already been answered. Direct copper and DUV
lithography are two independent technologies, pure apples and
oranges. Direct copper cannot define the gate level of ICs.
Gate level is the performance driver and is also the driver for
ever smaller geometries, hence the need for DUV. Direct copper
will be used for interconnect (interconnect being the wires between
the gates (transistors)) as a conducting layer. Direct copper is
not a threat to the insertion of DUV into manufacturing.
