it had been many mistakes to take common-understandings re china over the past 200+ years, down n bottoming, and its so far tepid 25-years final bottoming process.

i believe it is a mistake to believe that even a significant minority of rural folks of china having only one kid, and most folks are rural in china

the common ruse i personally know of and are accepted by local officials, due to simple human factor, by 'attributing' kids to relations without kids or just by sayings "kid is born, here is some tea money"

the census underway, the most significant in a long time, should be out before the half year is out nytimes.com

perhaps one of the questions was "how many in your family"

let us watch n brief on census (supposedly done this way stat.go.jp )result published

interesting side watch n brief, we have a reflexologist (feet massage expert) visit us at home every so often over the years. master wu is also a licensed traditional chinese medicine doc (herbal meds, acupuncture, etc) - and there are quite a few of such. he normally lives in shenzhen.

he has 4+1 apartments averaged cost rmb 1.5-2.5m, 40% leveraged, all rented out and one he lives in. he has a van. he is blessed with 4 daughters and 1 son. the one-time fee for registering the births after the first kid was equivalent to usd 2,500, to account for subsidies that kids get as part to their schooling and such. master wu's annual cost of living is usd 90k. he says he has many friends with more than 2 kids.

he charges us usd 125 for 4 hours of massage each time, and does so in part to tap my market wisdom. he charges his patients usd 250 for 10-15 minutes. i treat his fee as part of health insurance / healthcare budget, and i gain insights from him re china because many of his clients are big fellows in the usd mid-8- and even a few 9-digits range.
