We used to maintain a pretty decent six month supply of food. It takes a lot of work to keep it rotating and not go past the use by dates and once kids were grown and not eating at home, we got much less conscientious.

I live in a city that recently passed a law allowing one to keep up to four chickens in the backyard. I'm sorely tempted to have a few egg layers around. Might even cheat and go to six chickens since I haven't noticed any authorities patrolling the area yet for enforcement. <gg>
