I think they bought it mostly for Macromedia Flash, and I don't know what else remains that was worth the acquisition price.

Doren's comment was about

"how many companies go under not because of coding but because of lousy interfaces etc."

They might have gone under as a stand-alone business, if Apple or Google or an industry group had developed a competing standard with a good interface. But they or their board saw those risks and cashed out. So they didn't go under.

And Adobe took Flash and substantially improved the interfaces, so it survived as a de facto standard until about October 2009 or so when SJ publicly trashed it. Now the future of Flash and Adobe, IMO, are in doubt. I don't see a business model for them in the cloud.
