I just got the JMAR video tape in the mail. Impressive presentation. What really got me was the total explanation of the machines that are used by the HARD DRIVE and MR head industry. They showed all the machines working and inspecting MR heads, disk platters, and the armature that holds the MR head. Did anyone know that JMAR inspects disk platters too?

Here is a breakdown of the machines used in the Hard Drive Industry:

[1] Mirage, inspects disk drive MR heads. The tape said that the Mirage is highly acclaimed in the industry because of its versatility and 1 millionth of an inch precision. It said in the tape that the industry will require more precision as the heads and drives get denser. (I assume then that IBM's Giant MR heads will then require more precision).

[2] Horizon, inspects other disk drive parts for flaws, including the flexure or arm that holds the MR head.

[3] Galaxy, is a failure analysis workstation that inspects
hard drive disk platters for flaws.

The tape also showed the Lightning workstation product that repair short-circuits for the semiconductor industry. (We saw Lightning in a recent press release). There was a demo of the light knife extracting blood. It looks like it got even smaller, about the size of a sonic care electric toothbrush (maybe a tad fatter).

The tape also emphasized the Microlight 1000 product that is just emerging. This they said will be able to do things with materials that no other process can do. Lots of new applications, and a new industry. CATS was still mentioned, although not to the same degree as the previous tape.

All and all a very nice job of presenting JMAR's wares. I hope to show the tape to some brokers, and maybe I can get a hold of an analyst too. (We all have to do our part...)
