"It is a mixed message to say we should have the current president enforce all laws while at the same time saying that past presidents should be exempt from consequences of not enforcing all laws."

I think I am still having trouble with what you are saying, or you are seeing things in what I've said that I do not intend.

"exempt from consequences"? All I'm talking about is forcing a sitting president and all future holders of the office to do their duty. I'm not even thinking of punishment/consequences.

Besides, what is the term, ex post facto? You can't punish anyone for breaching laws that didn't exist at the time of their act which later became illegal.

Or, are you really trying to say that we can't force a sitting president and future presidents to obey the law, because previous ones may not have?
