Current management took over in 1949. Since then, China has invaded, or had battles with:

Tibet 1950
Korea 1950
India 1962
Soviet Union 1969
Paracel Islands 1976
Vietnam 1979
Spratly Islands 1988

An invasion of Taiwan was stopped, only because the U.S. Navy entered the Taiwan Straits in 1950.

These are just the external conflicts. Internally, current management has a consistent track record of solving conflicts by killing lots of people: The Great Leap Forward (30M dead), 1959 and 1987 Tibet uprisings crushed (100K+ dead), Cultural Revolution, millions dead in "reeducation camps", Tiananmen Square.

I suppose you could say, all this killing was done carefully...
