| Eva, I guess what I'm talking about is the changing of the history of Africa due to the ramping up of resource extraction by China and the rest of the world, which would provide jobs for Africans, and drastically change their lives in an upward trajectory. Of course this won't happen "all of a sudden", but it could happen quickly, just as China has grown it's large cities in a short time, and automobile sales have skyrocketed. Perhaps they won't achieve our standard of living...but our standard of living is predicated on the availability of cheap oil traded in our currency. From what I'm gathering, that may change, and perhaps quicker than you think. A global rebalancing is in the works. So to think that Africans will have nothing to build on in the face of a booming continental resource extraction business does not make sense to me. Money just hasn't been flowing into Africa, but now, this will change. The present day land grab by rich countries, individuals, and corporations is well documented today. The growth story has just begun IMO, just has it has in China, India, Brazil, etc, etc.. |
