That happened to me, once, in my account at Scottrade. Ever since then I only place all or none orders with them. I doubt it's worth their time to mess with things, it's pretty much automated and I have even had Scottrade improve on the price I was asking (so I don't feel they are out to get me, although there are days when it's tempting to think that way). Still, knowing something can happen, it's best to protect against it.

I feel bad when I see an order go across in the pre-market at some outrageously high price. Typically a tiny number of shares. You just know it's a novice trader who put in a market order and got fleeced, although like anything else, sometimes that's what it takes to learn a lesson. I've been taught a few and am sure there are more in my future.
