Android expected to surpass iOS in 2011 global tablet market share, says TWM head
Chloe Yu, Taipei; Adam Hwang, DIGITIMES [Wednesday 2 March 2011]

Viewing that many vendors of tablet PCs have adopted Android, the global market share of Android-based tablet PCs will exceed that of iPad in 2011, according to operation general manager Cliff Lai for Taiwan Mobile.

For Android tablet PCs, there are many choices in terms of screen size, functionality and price, a competitive advantage against iPad, Lai indicated. The selling of iPhone around the world is partly due to sales through cooperation with mobile telecom carriers, but iPad is not sold through such channels, Lai said.

TWM launched an own-brand tablet PC, myPad P1, in late December 2010, with 20,000 units in the first order, and is expected to be sold by the end of June 2011, Lai noted.

TWM on March 1 announced it has obtained sales agent rights for Google's Nexus S, an Android 2.3 handset supporting NFC technology. Of the smartphones TWM plans to procure in 2011, 50% will be NFC-enabled models, Lai indicated.
