There are routers that come with the ability to have a NAS drives (network area storage) but be careful. I have read a number of problems with some routers in which the NAS drives didn't work properly.

My original plan was a RAID box - Linux - where it is merely attached to the network. Then I saw they sell RAID boxes and could use those instead - the only problem is that those boxes only want to use USB or eSATA. Ultimately I probably will build a linux box with RAID 1s or RAID 1+0s.

Here is a working copy.

Here is an app that I use for synchronizing files - called Beyond Compare

I have a script which fires at a certain time and it will make a "mirror" image of my source to the destination - handling all directory or file additions/deletions. One could take this on your main computer and copy critical files to the same directory structure on two different machines. Then replicate a similar script on the other machines to do the same.

I am sure there are other apps besides BC that could probably do something similar. XCOPY is "okay" but is not the same as doing a SYNC.
