Hmm.. my reading of Chinese history is one where various warlords constantly feuded with one another in order to dominate various ethnicities that, to this day, have a hard time speaking with one another in the same dialect.

The Israelis have offered to return the Golan Heights in exchange for a peace treaty with Syria. But this is something the Syrians will not do.. They cannot make peace with Israel and sustain their own ideological existence (notwithstanding the Islamic prohibition to making peace with non-muslims located in "Dar Al-Islam").
