Envied the World Over, Strasbourg’s Tram Expands Again

I hope it works here ted...europe has a long history of public transportation, driven by economic conditions dating back to early 1900s...america has a very different cultural make up

That's what they said in LA. No one would ride the train from LA to San Diego. LA was car country. This was the mid 90s. At the time all LA had was a bus system. There were two trains a day to San Diego. Flash forward 15 years, there now are 26 trains per day to San Diego.....all full. The metro area now has six commuter lines, 6 light rail lines and one subway...all well traveled. The only unsuccessful light rail line in the US these days is Dallas. And there are good reasons for the system's failure. When oil went to $4, the US mass transit systems were maxed to capacity:

Before WW II, the US had a streetcar/mass transit system comparable to Europe. It all got torn up after the war for the sake of cars. And you know who was behind that bright eyed scheme......the same wingers that ran GM. We see how well that's worked out. Al, don't get sucked into winger arguments........they tend to always be wrong.
