As I mentioned to Bob, America's current political constellation will never come together to pass such a tax so the point is moot. Equally important, the heavily pro-energy policies of the last administration did nothing to hold oil prices down until their financial deregulation sparked a major recessionary contraction.

So the assumption that we can ease our problems with looser policies then fix the long-term situation through taxes is a dream world solution, IMHO.

I don't see how any of it adds up except in the "They should..." world that exists on op-ed pages and Internet chat boards.
