I checked several and even using your $45K that's for 9 months work or about $60K per year for normal jobs and don't forget the $15K or more in benefits for a total of $75K - that's a pretty damn good starting wage from a job you can rarely be fired from.

In any case - good teachers should be paid on their performance not time on the job - the bad ones should be fired so they can post all day on SI - like Ted.
