Verizon (VZ) Sees Customer Growth Doubling in Q1 on Apple (AAPL) iPhone Strength
7:38 am ET 03/09/2011 - StreetInsider

Verizon (NYSE: VZ) chief financial officer Fran Shammo said Tuesday that the company will likely added twice as many customers in the first quarter than it did in the year-ago period, driven by demand for Apple Inc.'s (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone 4.

During the first quarter of 2010, the wireless operator added 1.5 million total net customers, while adding 423,000 retail customers that signed a contract, which is required to purchase an iPhone.

Shammo said that this is just the beginning, as the true impact of the iPhone will be seen on Verizon when the next model comes out, which will likely happen this summer if Apple's refresh cycle remains consistent.

Apple has not indicated if the next iPhone will run on networks from both AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) and Verizon at launch.
