[SW BELL/PAC BELL ROLLOUT]--Steve, while this is
great news for Alcatel, we all must wonder what's
behind GTE'S reluctance to announce their deployment,
Last year in December, GTE made a big splash about their
second trial with m/s in Redmond and how they were going
to commercially deploy the first half of 1997. I have to
believe that they were counting on MOT's coppergold to
come in on schedule to make such a bold statement. Now
that TI's chip appears to be at hand, and SBC has beaten them
to the punch on deployment( not to mention loosing MCI),
a nice press release can give their shareholders something
to cheer about for a change. It wouldn't hurt our cause a bit
either. By the way, any clue on what Amati's earnings might be
next week? Have to believe they should come in well under
the projected .16 loss on Zacks latest estimate. I'm assuming that
they borrowed the 2 million from Westell to ship some modems to
bc/tel,taiwan,NEC and FR/TEL.
