(But is that the same way that the "market" arranged for the building of the trans-continental rail links? Or the interstate highway system itself? Or the Panama Canal? <g>) the trans-continental railroad was built with private companies. there's no way anyone can prove it, but i believe both the highway system and the panama canal would have been better if they were privately built. a free market would have built them both. government wasn't needed.
