Regarding Dell's diversification:

Dell is about as diversified as a PC company can get from
a product offering standpoint. Their strategy is to not
enter unproven markets. This is why they did not jump
on PDA's or sub-notebooks just to name a few. The sub
$1000 segment (I hate that term cause it's really the
1st time buyer segment) is no exception. Dell always
lets someone else be the guinea pig. Then, if a market
is viable and profitable, Dell figures out how to
do it faster/cheaper/better and steals market share
at an alarming rate.

Would you run your business any different?
