We provide $4B/y in tax benefits to encourage particular behavior related to energy independence. But after everything is taken into account, the true cost has been estimated at $1B/y.

It is not wasted money (as the 'stimulus' was) as it results in drilling and development where it otherwise would not be done. Also, for the most part, we're talking about the deduction as expenses of items that would otherwise be depreciated anyway.

To even call it a "subsidy" is a liberal "journalist" misnomer.

It isn't supporting "big government" to provide tax breaks to companies to cause them to behave in a way that will benefit public policy.
