I don't think we can afford to think as an empire anymore. A no fly job over Libya is a terrible idea. It is probably much harder to set up than the one over Iraq. The decade of no-fly zone over Iraq actually helped Saddam from a propaganda standpoint. It did little to weaken him.

By the way, do we know who those rebels are? Are we sure they are not worse than Qaddafi? From what I read, this fight is not about democracy but rather tribal disputes. And the rebels seem more Islamist than Qaddafi.
