Sly, 2 things I don't understand from your post. First, your math. If you are right that there were no tablet buyers in January or February, then Apple would not have shipped any in that period, leaving 6.5 million needed to ship for March to meet analyst shipment expectations (roughly 300K/day).
2nd thing I don't understand-- if there were people actually waiting for Honeycomb tablets, why aren't they buying Honeycomb tablets? Seems to me that Google/Moto/Verizon did a good show, drummed up some hype, but got left at the altar at the end.
Heck, I was excited about Honeycomb for a few days, but then the reality distortion field dissipated I guess. Obviously, cost and lack of apps was a dealbreaker, and those things will get fixed eventually. I expect Honeycomb (or some future version) to do fine, but it will be a slow grower, IMO, a 2012 story. The Xoom is closer to the G1 than the Droid, which sold because of 2 things: Verizon and free navigation. Google needs to deliver that level of value proposition to capture mindshare again. I'm interested in what they do with Simplify Media-- that was an awesome service. |
