I found this information in a government server. I checked the Telos website for this program and RNS is still the only supplier of FDDI adapters. I think these adapters must be better than others in the market because this contract has also other Cisco, Bay and Cabletron parts but not their FDDIs.

This was the text from 1996:

"RNS, a division of Meret Communications Inc., was selected as the sole supplier of Fiber Distributed Data Interface adapters on the Army's
Small Multiuser Computer (SMC) II contract, awarded to Telos Corp. last year. RNS is supplying its RNS 2200 Series 32-bit PCI FDDI adapters and RNS 1265 16-bit ISA bus FDDI adapters. The company plans to add the dual attached station version of the RNS 2200 Series PCI FDDI adapters and the RNS 2300 Series Fast Ethernet adapters to the SMC II contract. For more information on RNS products, users can contact the company at (703) 847-6775 or via the Internet at
rns.com."

By the way the cost for the 2200 is $206 and the 1265 is $137.
