Yes, we're in agreement on the main points. People have largely forgotten (this act of forgetting aided an abetted by the wingnut media).

I'm often annoyed by the "cowboy" culture. So many people nowadays think of themselves as completely autonomous self-reliant units with no reference to the society around them. They think they're cowboys living off the buffalo herds or something. They're "free and independent" etc. So who needs government?

It's total hogwash of course. But that's the myth that's propagated. And it's a powerful one.
