I recently had the system drive(c: in this case) fail on a Windows 7 system. After replacing the drive, I tried a system recovery using the built in Windows 7 software. Could not get it to work.

Is this a peculiarity of Windows Backup or is this case for all backup software? That you cannot restore your image to a brand new hard drive and not the your original system drive.

If there is any backup software that restores to a new drive, which software vendor sells it?

Thank you very much in advance.
