Put simply, the difference between conservatives and liberals is based on their philosophical approach which is fundamentally and diametrically opposed.

Liberals: generally, use "reason and the scientific method" as the foundation for their beliefs and their philosophy of life. That is why scientists are usually liberals who believe in evolution, are usually pro choice, and use modern social and physical science to make political decisions.

Conservatives: generally, use "faith" (instructions from their religion) as the foundation for their beliefs and their phiosophy of life. And why they are usually pro life, do not believe in evolution and is why few scientists are conservative.

PS: The Age of enlightenment" as taught in universities throughout the world was the process whereby mankind started shedding a life based on myth for a life of based on reason.
