Smaller reactors are no simpler than the larger ones. Just smaller and cheaper. Also spreads the risk of accidents around. A smaller reactor will not have as large an area of dangerous radiation, and the pollution would be smaller. But the flip side there is a greater chance of an accident somewhere.
