Of course I'm not saying the 2002 recession had the potential to become a depression. The point is that the government response in 2003 created the illusion of prosperity for a few years. But they only bought time, and they let terrible imbalances build up in order to maintain the illusion.

The same thing is happening now, but worse. None of the underlying problems have been fixed, and they've been allowed to get worse than they were before we had a derivative meltdown in 2008.
