Playmates Toys announces first half of 1996 net profit
of over US$5 million. This compares to a profit of US$2.6
million for similar peiod in 1995. Of course, it must be
realized that most toy companies sell the greater part of their
wares in the second half (the Christmas half) of a given year. Also of
note was a 100%+ increase in the sales of game videos
from US$3.75 million in sales to US$8.23 million.
This would seem to bode well for Playmates since its game video
division is only two years old.

With the upcoming films, "Star Trek-First Contact", "Space Jam",
"Turtles IV" supporting Playmates promotional toys in the second
half of 1996, Playmates Toys may indeed reap a good harvest
going forward.
