The lake of toxic waste at Baotou, China, which as been dumped by the rare earth processing plants in the background

I'd be interested to know how MolyCorp's planned re-opening of its rare earth mine in California (just down the road and over the border from Las Vegas) would manage to avoid causing similar environmental degradation. There's no water there, either.

Since it requires wading through 16 or 20 environmental impact statements and hordes of howling greenies just in order to build a tree house in your back yard in CA, I wonder how they'll ever get this rare earth mine up and running again..
