The advances in medicine the last two centuries have made all the difference, IMO. Just the last 80 years alone are outstanding. Combine this with the computer, and the next couple could be unbelievable. But it can go south, and is doing so at the moment.

Concur.

Would add the key factor in the economic growth of the last 150 years has been driven by our synergistic development of energy capacity. I read an estimate that one gallon of gas is equivalent to 350 manhours. Even at 4 bucks a gallon that is cheap.

Without that we are still back in the 1850s.

I do not believe we can continue to grow energy at the same rate.
At least not with the tools we have today. Slowing energy expansion will slow economic expansion and can only exacerbate the glide slope down as the world's population continues to expand everyday.
