'Significant' damage at HP Sendai office
San Jose Business Journal - Tuesday, March 22, 2011, 12:56pm PDT

Hewlett-Packard Co. said in a regulatory filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission Tuesday that while none of its offices in metro Tokyo sustained major structural damage, its Sendai office had "significant interior damage" from the March 11 earthquake.

Palo Alto-based HP (NYSE:HPQ) also said all of its employees in Japan are safe.

The Sendai office, near the epicenter of the earthquake, remains closed.

HP said the products and services it sells in Japan account for from 3 percent o 4 percent of its total revenue. In addition, HP obtains components used to manufacture certain of its products from suppliers with operations in Japan.

"This is an evolving situation; we are in contact with our partners, suppliers and customers and are continuing to assess the impact to HP’s business," the company said.
