I am not siding with Solon against you. Frankly I am appalled at the behavior of both parties, supposedly grown men. I do not know how it started, and I doubt that it matters any more. All I see is vendetta, feud, expressions of reciprocal hatred that stink up a thread nominally about evolution in science and society. Both of you are bone-certain that you are the aggrieved party here.
Both of you use homosexual insults when posting to or about each other. It was my perception, correct or not, that Solon's statement of contempt for David and Jonathan didn't hinge on their supposed homosexuality, and I answered to that. Feel free to disagree, but allow me to suggest that I wasn't having at your person.
I suggested to Solon that the best, indeed only way, to deal with such a scabbed-over feud was to walk away. He responded with an appeal to principle, which amuses me in the context of such a dungfight. I hesitate to suggest to you, greg or e, that you take the high road, let the past feed on itself alone, take the moral less-low ground. My appeal would probably be doomed to fail. Something I intuit from the frequency and intensity of your exchanges with Solon is that you both prefer combat to the alternative ... boredom.
I did not think my post to you was offensive. It was not intended to offend or provoke you. On the one hand I think that questioning my credibility was an overresponse. On the other hand, I recognize that I brought offense, and I apologize. (I realize that doing so contravenes thread tradition, and it will probably open me to charges of weakness andor appeasement.
