I find him to be highly intelligent. He isn't quick on his feet, but that has very little to do with intellect. Some of the most intelligent people I've known in my life were lousy public speakers. His writing is superb in every respect, and that isn't an unusual characteristic.

He certainly has far more understanding of the ways of the world than the current occupant of the WH, who is grossly incompetent in almost every respect.
