Here's my Dad's ship, the USS Northampton. It was a heavy cruiser. It was at sea on December 7, 1941 and survived the attack on Pearl Harbor but was sunk at the Battle of Tassafaronga. My Dad was ordered to recruiting duty before either event took place, which suits me just fine.

We have a picture of her steaming out of Pearl, along with a menu for the Thanksgiving Dinner (Not sure if it's 1940 or 41). I have a piece of teakwood from her deck right here. My Dad saved it from the bone pile when they stripped the teak off to prepare for the inevitable war with Japan.
